Before the Holidays Begin

Before the holidays begin, pause.

Before the shopping, cooking, cleaning, decorating, traveling, planning, and gathering — prepare your heart.

It is possible to have a beautiful house and a weary spirit. It is possible to prepare the perfect meal and still feel empty inside. That is why the heart must come first.

This season, invite God in early.

Pray over your home. Pray over your family. Pray over your finances. Pray over your conversations. Pray over your emotions. Ask the Lord to fill the season with peace before pressure tries to enter.

The holidays can bring joy, but they can also bring stress, grief, old wounds, family tension, and financial strain. You do not have to pretend those things are not real. But you also do not have to let them rule you.

Release the pressure to make everything perfect. Your family needs your peace more than your perfection. Your home does not have to look like a magazine to be filled with God’s presence.

Forgive before the gathering. Set healthy boundaries before emotions rise. Choose wisdom before spending. Make room for worship before the calendar gets full.

Jesus told Martha that she was worried and troubled about many things, but only one thing was truly needed. That reminder still speaks today.

The most important preparation is not the table.

It is not the menu.

It is not the gifts.

It is not the decorations.

It is the heart.

So before the holidays begin, breathe deeply and say,

“Lord, this season belongs to You.”

Let peace lead.

Let grace speak.

Let love remain.

Let Christ be the center.

A prepared heart can turn even a simple season into something sacred.
